Gener 2 holds the concession license to build, own, operate, and transfer the Dragobia Hydropower Plant on the Valbona River, in the Northern Alps of Albania. The project is made up of two small run of the river hydropower plants and it will have a total installed capacity of 21.9 MW.

The project is a run-of-river scheme, which means that there is no water storage, no dams, and the production of energy depends on the seasonal water flows.  The main but not the only advantages offered by this project are the lack of a reservoir and the fact that it is a renewable energy source.  One of the key elements in these types of projects is to maintain a flow rate in the river in order to protect the ecological health of the creek and the flora and fauna that exist in it.  The project has been designed in such a way that it will preserve the ecological flow of the river and special care has been taken to allow the fish to move freely without any hindrances.

The project is comprised of two small hydropower plants.  One is on the Ceremi stream, which is a tributary of the Valbona River, and the other is on the Valbona River itself, near the village of Dragobia.  The penstock which will take the water from the tunnels to the powerhouses, will also be underground, making most of the project virtually invisible.  Contrary to the popular belief, the riverbed will not dry during the small segment where some of the water will be diverted.  This diverted water, free of any pollutants and according to studies even cleaner then before entering the tunnel, will be returned to the river which will continue its normal flow.  The water produces a lot of energy for a relatively very small environmental disturbance.  The plant house is designed in such a way to complement the surrounding natural environment, preserving the traditional architecture lines of the area, using only stone materials.

According to many sources, such as International Energy Agency, Energy Information Administration, the Ontario Power Authority of Canada, to name a few, the run-if-river projects have the lowest environmental impacts by far.

The area where the project is located has suffered considerable damage due to human intervention.  In cooperation with the local population and authorities, we have identified several heavily damaged areas, which will be rehabilitated and returned to their original state.  The local government lacks the financial capabilities and the know-how to rehabilitate the environment.  Gener 2 has a great deal of experience on these matters.  Therefore, with its resources and manpower, the environment will be restored and improved.

Special care has been taken to preserve the endemic species and to minimize the environmental impact.  We build green and we do it responsibly.
